  • Strategies for improving communication
  • Skills to reduce defensive patterns
  • Innovative conflict resolution techniques
  • Common sense problem-solving
  • For helping professionals, organizational consultants, and curious people
In a nutshell, what is one difference between SCT and traditional methods of working with people?  Most traditional methods are aimed at solving problems.  Instead, SCT methods are aimed at building a problem-solving system.  And it works for individuals, couples, groups, organizations, and businesses.

Our research shows that when defensive patterns are reduced, the natural driving forces within any living human system are released and flow toward development and transformation.

This workshop will include a theoretical discussion and an experiential demonstration of SCT, including functional subgrouping and skill practice. Functional subgrouping provides an experience in which people learn to build on similarities rather than separating on differences.  SCT techniques will be practiced as appropriate, such as those used to cross boundaries into membership, undo anxiety, tension, depression, or outrage.  Our eventual goal is to build an ongoing NW training group for continued experience and skill learning.

Trainer: Susan Gantt, Ph.D., ABPP, CGP, is a psychologist and Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Emory University School of Medicine where she coordinates group psychotherapy training. She is the Director of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute (SCTRI) and co-author of the books Autobiography of a Theory, SCT in Action and SCT in Clinical Practice with Yvonne Agazarian.
